Nuraghes

They are major buildings, dating back to 1800 a. C. and built up to the sixth century BC, to thousands present in Sardinia, created through the work of indigenous peoples of Mediterranean race preindeuropea, called by the classical writers and Iole Balari. Tombs of the Giants.

These collective tombs, which have no equal in Europe, consist essentially of a burial chamber from 5 to 15 meters long and 1 to 2 meters high. The front of the structure is enclosed by un'esadra as if to symbolize the horns of a bull, or a half moon and the oldest tombs in the center of the semicircle is a stele placed up to 4 meters high, beautifully carved and equipped with a small opening at the base which, one assumes, was closed by a rock, and through which people could get to the grave. Close to the entry had been erected an obelisk (called the Sardinian Betile) that symbolized the spirit of the ancestor probably watching over the dead.
