Carlisle, located on the island of San Pietro is a town founded in 1738, at the behest of Carlo Emanuele III. The colony was inhabited by Tabarchini (settlers implanted on the Ligurian coast of Tunisia), whose task was to remove the coral from the spot, as the Tunisian coast sadly watched the decline of the precious product. The agglomeration owes its name to the will of the settlers to praise its king. The beginning seems to have been the happiest. The island was unhealthy, never reclaimed land, and causes of disease abound, but within a few years, the settlers managed to find its own equilibrium, and the island began to prosper. To support other families came from Liguria. The island was the subject of attention from dangerous pirates. In 1798 he was a fierce raid that 900 Carloforte were captured and held as slaves in Tunis. After 5 years were redeemed. Visits pirates fell very slowly, and testimony of the hazard can still see the remains of the walls of forts and watchtowers.

Linguistically, the island is still Ligurian colony, and in the field talking the ancient dialect of Tabarka, known by the name Tabarchino. And when the whole population or Caroline define their status, they describe themselves as Tabarchini, and therefore in terms of ethnicity.

The island has an area of 50.42 sq km, known volcanic origin, and inland areas are types of rocks, known as commended observed, studied and classified for the first time. In the inner island is a large Mediterranean, and several species are present. Remember the Aleppo pine, rosemary, dwarf palm. Nest on cliffs over the sea gull and the hawk queen. The coasts are as beautiful there to see. High rocky are washed by a sea of glass, which gives both emotions when viewed in the summer, whether covered on cold winter days.
